I decided to take swimming lessons because I was fed up with putting in lots of training time in the pool and not seeing any real gains. I knew that I had a decent level of fitness so I guessed that technique was what was holding me back. I am a triathlete and I compete over sprint and Olympic distances so a decent swim time is really important. I chose Strictly Swimming because I was impressed with the coaches profiles and experience.. Apart from having really convenient central locations for me and luxury venues, Strictly Swimming seemed to understand triathletes specific needs and I was right. I started my lessons with Bartek with the goal of just swimming faster. The first lesson was a revelation, by making some basic changes to my technique Bartek immediately had me swimming not only quicker but more efficiently. His explanations and instructions were clear and concise and allowed me to visualise exactly what I should be trying to do. We continued to work on body position, breathing and stroke technique and the improvements were obvious, not just in my times but in how I felt in the water. After just a few lessons I competed in the Eton Dorney super sprint tri which starts with a 400m open water swim. I was absolutely stoked to be third out of the water (from 40 in my wave) in a PB time of 7.19 - nearly two minutes better than my previous PB - I went on to finish 11th - so maybe Bartek can give me some cycling lessons as well! |
